Wipe Meta Data on Photos with Loooks

Pictures are a medium we use to share ourselves with the world. They can hold happy memories. A powerful photo can move a country. In today’s world, a phone can capture some pretty amazing moments.

Your phone also captures quite a bit of data when you snap a photo. All of the information, from when you took the picture to how it was taken, is stored digitally with the image itself.

Loooks is an app that reveals that data and then enables you to remove it. When you open a picture with the app, you can see:

  • Resolution
  • Format
  • File size
  • Model of the device used
  • ISO
  • Aperture
  • Exposure time
  • Date originated and digitalized
  • Latitude and longitude
  • Altitude

Loooks

This information is helpful to some people. Usually, shutter speed and aperture isn’t adjusted when taking a picture on a phone. There are general auto settings used, but it’s interesting to go back and see what your camera did to capture the best possible image.

It’s simple to open one photo with the app and view all the information gathered about the image.

If you want to delete all the meta data from a batch of photos, the app makes the action simple. It only takes a few steps to select all the photos and wipe them of any information piggy-backing the image.

Most of the time, it’s not too harmful for people to use your images to find out where you are and when you were there. But there is a little bit of a threat.

In today’s digital world, everyone is trying to soak up as much information as they can. Gathering data from photos can supplement a profile about your actions and activities.

My only complaint would be that it only works with photos taken from an iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. I’ll be interested to see if there’s a desktop version for photos taken from something like a DLSR.

With Loooks, it’s easy to wipe data from photos before you post them to Facebook or Twitter. I wasn’t too sure about this app, but it’s definitely good one to get if you are worried about how much information you are releasing to the world.

Welzen – Find Calm or Motivation with Meditation App

Meditation has been used and adapted for hundreds of years to focus the mind and foster creativity. What seems like a simple exercise can actually be quite challenging, so many turn to guided meditations.

Welzen is an amazing guided meditation app that offers different types of sessions. The voice that leads you through these meditations is soothing and helps to get you in a peaceful state of mind.

The different sessions include

  • Manage Stress
  • Reduce Anxiety
  • Increase Focus
  • Improve Relationships
  • Enhance Creativity

There are a few different sessions to choose from under each category, which is convenient. If you are overwhelmed but only have a few minutes to spare, there are five minute sessions. 15-minute meditations are nice after a long day.

If you don’t want to select a specific type of meditation, there’s a “Mindfulness Meditation of the Day” button which takes you straight to a session.

The app also has an introductory series to teach you about mindfulness also a tab about the science. This turns the app into as much as a teaching app as a meditation one.

A feature about this app that I really enjoyed were the reminders. They recommend setting a reminder in the morning, which then has your device send a notification. This way, you can be sure to get your daily practice in.

In addition to meditations, the app offers “mindfulness coaching.” These sessions not only tells you how to relax your brain, but how to engage it and use your mind to the fullest.

Welzen does a great job at teaching about meditation and guiding users to a point where they might not need a voice guiding them. Of course, it’ll always be there to come back to.

The look of the app is nice, but not too calm and relaxing. There are fun graphics to accompany words. The overall experience of the app is pleasant.

Unfortunately, you have to subscribe and pay for access to all the meditations, but there are some free ones that are good. However, once you go through all the free ones you’re done. To “unlock” Welzen and gain access to all of the sessions and series, you must subscribe to a monthly, yearly, or “forever” deal.

Welzen is a great app for anyone who would like to start meditation but isn’t sure how. The combination of teaching series and meditation sessions make it a great app for beginners and masters alike.

Music Cube – Configure Your Own Music

There are only a few apps around that can provide you with high quality sound and music but I think I have found an app that is absolutely amazing and can make any song sound brand new. This app is called Music Cube. It has so many features and a high quality user interface. It is a very professional app that just keeps getting better with time. It makes you wonder why you aren’t paying for it! (Admittedly there is a Pro version you can pay for to help support the developers as they make the app even better.)The design concept is in the name giving the app a stylish theme, cubes.

I personally love to be able to configure my own music to sound the way I want and with the customizable equalizer I can do just that. This app is very simple to use with an easy equalizer that even comes with some preset options if you don’t feel like going through the trouble of changing the song by yourself. There is an excellent bass booster in this app that can make the music seem almost 3D in your ears which is really cool when you are walking down the street. Also if you like a loud bass you can make it to where you can feel the bass in your body.

Music Cube app

There are many different types of music files supported by this app including MP3, WMA, AAC, 3GP, OGG, and FLAC. You can tag each of these files with whatever you want so that you can organize the music in a variety of ways, which comes in handy when making your ultimate playlists which is easily done in app. Through the app you can even share music files and playlists with your family and friends, so everybody can join in on the fun. This music player will download all the cover art and information about the band as well so you can learn more about your favorite songs and have the official cover art to go with it.

If you are really into the app there are even more features to customize your phone such as widgets. The one thing about the app is that you cannot download any music from it. There are many easy ways to download music from other places though so this is not much of a problem unless you aren’t very tech savvy. However because the app doesn’t take up a lot of space on your phone there shouldn’t be a problem downloading a second app to download music to your phone or possibly downloading the music off of the internet. Either way I think that getting Music Cube is still very worth it.

I use this Music Cube to make music videos and although I don’t post them anywhere the quality turns out really well. If you need a music app to create better sound than this is the music app for you. Just keep in mind that even with all the great features you may need one more app to make it perfect until the developers can figure out a way to let us download music directly from their app.

Reach for the Skies Makes Learning Feel like Playing a Game

Do you like entertaining flying or racing games in which you have to avoid obstacles and collect rewards? Are you also looking for an app that offers something more than mindless entertainment?

Check out Reach for the Skies! It’s an app that combines game-playing skills with an educational twist.

First, select a type of game to play. There’s Life of Earth (biology), Flags, and Mathematics. Or, if you prefer, add your own questions!

I especially enjoyed the option to add your own questions. It beats using flashcards any day.

After choosing which subject to play with, choose your aircraft. There’s hot air balloons, zeppelins, and planes. Each of them fly a little differently, and it takes some practice to master the different types of maneuverability.

Once you’ve figured out how to best control a hot air balloon or plane, you can use coins you’ve earned to buy different versions.

Coins are earned either by answering questions correctly or retrieving the various floating treasures you’ll encounter as you fly through a maze of obstacles. The game transitions smoothly between scenes and the graphics are great.

Reach for the Skies

Questions will show up, you will get a few seconds to think on it, and then answers will start to appear.  You will see one answer at a time. Fly through the answer you think is correct. If you pass on the first, you will be offered a second answer, and so on until all offered answers are presented.  If you’re right, your aircraft is refueled and you earn coins to add to your coffers.

This game is entertaining enough for kids and adults of any age to play! The levels vary in difficulty, from basic easy math to high school level.

One great feature of this app is how closely it resembles a game. It doesn’t feel like the main purpose is to learn or test yourself, even though it clearly is. The level selection, aircraft page, and even the awards given out put emphasis on the game part of the app.

The game works with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. I used the iPhone. For the most part it worked, but sometimes pictures would show up. For example, I got a question that asked “This is a cross section of a…” and then it showed the cross section of a cell. I had to lean in pretty close to see, which distracted from flying. The pictures may throw you off, so playing on a larger screen, such as an iPad or iPhone 6, may be better.

Reach for the Skies is a great way to test yourself on a variety of subjects in the most entertaining way. It’s like no other educational app I’ve seen before. It’s great for kids, but I also think adults will enjoy it. There’s the option to connect to Facebook as well to compare scores and statuses. Reach for the Skies turns learning into a competitive game. It’s definitely a great app to get!
