Addalets – Fun with Letters and Words

Addalets app

Words can be tricky. We use a common set on a daily basis, but in order to really get a point across, sometimes you have to know just the right word to use. A good vocabulary is key to being a great communicator. You don’t need a degree in English to have good communication skills, but you do have to work at it. If you can do that in a game, what more could you ask for!

Addalets is a word building game where players create new words from existing words. So, not only are you recognizing an existing sets of words, you are firing off neurons to envision new words that can be made from each existing word, given a set of letters from which to work.

The game is a free download but comes filled with gaming packets for purchase. Some of these packets can be purchased with coins, which you earn as you complete puzzles and Daily Challenges. Some packets are purchasable only with money. If you have your kids playing this game, which I highly recommend you do, make sure you have settings on your device to ensure they cannot “accidentally” make a purchase without your permission.

Setup is as follows. When you first open the game on any given day, the app will show you the Daily Challenge. This will consists of completing a certain number of games in one day. For doing this, you get bonus coins in addition to the coins you earn for completing each game. Next, you will see a screen pop up with a list of words and below the list, a single word made up of as many letters as there are words in your list.

Your goal is to drag one letter into a spot within one of the existing words to create a new word. It can be at the very front or in the middle, but no at the end. If you succeed, then the letter turns green. If the placement of the letter does not create an acceptable word, it will turn red and will move back to its original position. Once you have successfully placed all the letters and they are all green, you’ve completed the puzzle. At this point, you can view the definitions of each word and then move on to the next game, or get on with the next game straightaway.

I found the games to be easy to figure out, and the layouts were clean and easy to read. I just love this game. It was fun and it also helped me use my brain in a way that builds up my vocabulary and knowledge and spelling of words. That is why I highly recommend this to kids. There’s nothing better than flexing their minds with a fun game.

If there’s anything I could wish for in Addalets it would be to be able to pull up the definitions of words I successfully solved. It would be nice to go back and look at them.

Until that upgrade, I will be playing away working my way towards 3000 coins so I can purchase a packet of more!
