I’m not sure who buys DVDs anymore, but we all definitely have a bunch lying around the house. In the age of digital, no one wants to carry around or keep track of physical media. That’s just archaic. What you need is a way to save the contents of DVDs and put them on a device from which you can find and view them, whenever you want.

MacX DVD Ripper provided just the ticket.

This app, meant for Macs, allows you to quickly rip DVDs and save them on your Mac. It also provides for a fast and easy way to organize what you’ve ripped so you can get to them in an instant. An incredibly easy to use app, it does all the hard techie stuff for you. There is no need to open up a user’s manual and sift through it. Simply download the app and start using it.

First off, the app has built in smarts to bypass encryptions and protections on the DVD. You don’t have to figure anything out here, whereas with other apps, you do. If you have a desire to make certain changes to how the app work, you are welcome to do so, the facilities are there at your disposal, but you are not required to. This makes this app perfect for non technical folks as well as super techies.

The functionality does not stop at saving DVDs. You can also use MacX to clip out sections of video and save those for later use or post them on social media.

To get the DVD ripping started, or anything else, you put the DVD into the Mac drive and select the DVD Button on the app. Select the correct profile so that you save the DVD data into a format of your choosing. Examples include files for iPads, files for iPhones, and files for other destination operating systems, including Android devices, Windows phones and tablets.

The actual deciphering and copying of the DVD goes pretty quickly, but if you want superb quality, you can choose settings that more data is captured, which requires copying at a slower speed.

Once the DVD is loaded, you click on Run and the app takes care of the rest. As mentioned earlier, if you know about the intricate details involved in download and decryption and want to make some small changes to codecs to adjust frame rates, bit rates and resolutions, you have the ability to do so in MacX.

If there were anything I could change in the app, it would be to clean up the look and feel and make it less technical looking. It was a bit intimidating at first, but I was able to catch on quickly as it used more frequently.

If you are in the market for a DVD ripper and you own a Mac, I highly recommend purchasing MacX DVD Ripper Pro to ensure your copies are done well. The results are astonishing and the app makes the saves so much easier to find.
