Reading Eggs for Kids of All Ages

Reading Eggs

Reading is an essential skill, no matter what you decide to do in life. Yet, so many kids get through our education system without really learning how to. If you are a parent of a child who has struggled with reading or if you are being proactive and want to get your kids off to a early start, consider downloading Reading Eggs – Learn to Read.

Reading Eggs is a reading app that was created in conjunction with educators and experts in the field to help design a learning program filled with activities that are fun for kids and sequenced in a way that introduces concepts for easier comprehension and mastery. Kids won’t even know they are learning to read as they traverse the various areas of the app, laid out as maps of paths lined with eggs. Each egg represents an activity or set of activities kids must complete to secure the egg and move on to the next.

The maps and activities start off with true beginners in mind. These are kids who have never read before. Concepts such as letter sounds, a few sight words and simple sentences are introduced at this level. Once this level is completed, kids can move on to actually reading by learning phonics, longer sentences and comprehension.

As kids move through maps and complete skill levels, their progress allows them to move forward. Since reading is based on so many different skills such as phonics, spelling and comprehension, it is very important to follow the prescribed paths provided in the app, as skills learned in one level are a requirement to perform activities in the next level.

The app offers 120 lessons that are divided into three learning chunks of 40 lessons each. The first chunk is for kids who have never read. The second chunk is moves kids from the intro into the basics of reading. The third chunk builds off the first two and provides extra skills and practice in reading and comprehension.

Reading Eggs also provides a special module called Mathseeds that allows kids to brush up on and practice math skills, so they kind of get a nice break from just learning reading skills, and it makes the app little more well rounded in terms of providing practice for areas that are essential.

The activities are self-paced, which means there should be no tears of frustration. There is no time limit and no pressure. Kids learn in a way that works best for them. Parents are happy because kids will happily want to use the app to play the games and compete activities and will be learning at the same time.

If Reading Eggs was able to spit out some reports, it would be a nice feature to have, so you could take snapshots of your child’s progress.
