Have you been the recipient of one too many speeding tickets? In some states, you can get away with your first one by paying a fine and taking a class and avoiding it having an effect on your record. Go past that, and things can get expensive. Now, you don’t have to worry about going over any limits and you can drive safer by staying ahead of the curve with alerts that let you know when changes in limits are approaching.
Speedo Minder Pro Speed Alert is an app that can serve as your co-pilot of sorts to keep you informed of such changes and will alert you when you go over any limits that are in place. Free to download and easy to use, it can keep you ticket free if used properly.
What I like about the app is its layout. It looks like a dashboard, so you can easily see the information you need to at a glance, so you can focus on your driving.
Key Features include:
- Clean Dashboard – easily see and hear the alerts so you know when to slow down. It shows you your current speed in the top circle and the current speed limit in the bottom circle, each in very large font. Alert settings can easily be adjusted from the dashboard using the + and – buttons.
- Alerts – you can set up a primary and secondary alert so you know when you are going between 0 to 5 mph/kmh above the current speed limit and again when you are going 5 to 10 mph/kmh above. Audio alerts can also be set up to alert you every few seconds until you have slowed down. Alerts can be configured to go off every 2 second to every 10 seconds, depending on your preference. Audio alerts can be temporarily turned off by tapping on the Speed Limit Circle. This will turn off all audio alerts for 30 seconds.
- Offline Map Data – maps are downloaded so you get speed limit and speed camera warnings without needing internet connection.
- GPS Strength Meter – see how strong your GPS signal is.
Speedo Minder alerts currently works in about 89 countries and has information about 172,000 speed cameras. The full list of countries is available on the website, so you can see if you are covered before downloading the app. It comes with different subscription packages, with the option to try it out free for seven days. The best option, in my opinion, is to purchase the 12 month No Advertisement option for $4.99 per year, so you are not disrupted by ads while using the app.
I really couldn’t find anything that would need improving in the app. I found it easy to read and use. I think it would be interesting to download a report as to when you did go over the speed limit by a certain amount, just for information’s sake to see how well the app works for you over time.
As a tool that could serve as a driving companion or co-pilot of sorts, Speedo Minder is a must have app if you find yourself going over limits and need reminders to slow down and stay safe.
