Think you know your music? Test out how well. Download Music Match created by Patrik Prepsl with Jan Zimandl, a fun game that puts your audio skills and memory to the test to see if you can figure out the title and artist of a piece of music.

The download is free and the app is simple to use. You can play on your own or put yourself up for a challenge by checking out the Leaderboard to see how others stack up overall or by individual artists. But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s check out what the game has to offer and all the things you can do to get the most out of it.

First off, after you download the game, you will first search for and “Game” an artist. It can be one that’s your favorite, for whom you probably already know most of their work, or it can be a slightly familiar artist, someone you’ve recently become a fan off and now want to see how well you know their music.

Once you find and game an artist, the game will start. You will be given a piece of their music to listen to, and in a required amount of time, you have to guess the piece. What makes the game very exciting is that no two games are ever the same. Every time you play, even if you keep picking the same artist, the game will be different. Now, keep in mind that all artists only have so many pieces of music, so you will get repeats of songs, but the sequence in which you will be tested on these pieces will never be the same. This makes the game new every time you play.

Each game keeps track of how well you answer and how fast. So, not only do you get points for getting things correct, you also get them for answering quickly. There’s no pressure to guess too quickly, but know that if you answer without delay, you do get rewarded for it.

As you get better and increase your own scores, you can then set out to take down top scorers in different categories. You can even turn on notifications to hear about imminent attacks if you are a top scorer and whether or not a record score was overturned by a new player with a better score. As a player, you can build a score card with a customized nickname, which you can easily share with others.

If you head over to the Battle with Countries screen, you’ll see all the albums on which various players from different countries, the scores and in how many games the country has scored in. This kind of takes the game to a higher, almost Olympic level, if you wish.

I would highly recommend using Music Match with a quality set of headphones, so surrounding sounds don’t cloud your judgment, and I would also recommend playing where you have a solid and fast connection to the internet, because you want the streams to be clear, not cut off.

The only recommendation for improvement I would share with the creator is that the display is a bit messy, with the background always showing as an underlay. It feels like too much is going on.

Music Match is fun for anyone of any age. It’s a great way to get some entertainment, testing your brain while listening to your favorites.
