Backup DVD in Only 5 Minutes with MacX DVD Ripper Pro

There is nothing more annoying than having to carry around a DVD just so you can watch a movie while on the road to your vacation destination. Maybe you just want accessibility to a movie that you now own. Once you’ve made the purchase, you have every right to have that movie accessible from any device, so you can watch it without requiring a player.

MacX DVD Ripper Pro is unlike all the other DVD ripping utilities in many ways.

First, this app is superbly easy to use. I can’t say that enough, because for someone who hates to dig around an app figure things out, this app is a boon. It easily slips onto you Mac and is extremely intuitive. You don’t have to dig around and you don’t have to read. MacX is direct and to the point. It gets you to the functions you need immediately, without making you go through lots of screens and setup, like so many other apps do.

It cleverly has built in the features required to bypass various encryptions and protections put in place to prevent you from really owning your movie. If you want to delve in a bit deeper to tweak your rips, you can do so, but it’s all up to you. You can control the encoding process, trim videos, crop images and merge titles.

You can even extract favorite scenes and clips from movies you’ve made or saved and post them on your favorite social media sites. This app can rip all types of DVDs – movies, TV series, workouts, non UDF, damaged etc., The updated version 5.5.0 rips at the speed of 250-320 FPS – 5X faster than the old version.

MacX DVD Ripper

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty now. To rip a DVD, you simply insert it into the drive and load it by clicking the DVD Button. The application itself is already packed with profiles to help you create copies that can play on iPads and iPhones, but you can set up other configurations for other destinations, such as Android devices, Windows phones and tables, and Blackberries.

For higher quality copies, you can move the settings to copy at a slower speed, ensuring that all the necessary data is captured. Again, it’s all up to you how you want to make the copy.

Once you have selected the video to copy, you click on Run and let the app do its magic. It has built in decryption and transcoding that takes from the DVD and saves what you ask for, based on all of the settings you have chosen. Keep in mind that the app works as well as the tools it has at its disposal, meaning the processors in your machine. In any case, you are running this on a Mac, so you know it will go quickly.

For folks who are bit more daring and know more about transcoding, you can take that deep dive and work on codecs to tweak minute details of your video download, like adjusting frame rates, resolutions and bit rates.

Not much is missing from this app. I would make it a bit cleaner looking for users who are not used to using these types of apps, but other than that, once you’ve used MacX DVD Ripper Pro a few times, it is incredibly easy to use and becomes second nature.

If you are looking for an easy to use app to copy DVDs and keep them forever, download MacX DVD Ripper Pro today – don’t delay.

MacX Video Converter – Video Conversions and More on Your Mac

Videos capture the story of our lives. Without them, we could not remember the squeals of joy our daughters made when surprised on their Sweet 16’s. Without them, we would not remember the gentle sounds our babies made while sound asleep. Without them, we would not remember the adventure experienced on that vacation of a lifetime.

Videos are not just for memories, but for entertainment as well. There are tons of sites out there that offer movies, TV serials and more. The issue is with what format they are stored.

If you have a Mac and use it often to play videos, then you have all that you need with MacX Video Converter Pro to get videos of all kinds and be able to play them on your Mac.

MacX Video Converter Pro offers a plethora of tools to select formats, aspect ratios, and settings for quality.

Installation is a breeze, as is always the case with anything Apple, and it works seamlessly with almost any browser.

MacX Video Converter

As part of the installation process, the application will prompt you to enter the number of “cores” on your machine to dedicate to transcoding. This allows you to set a limit on how may processors the application will use while performing its translation, which is a plus if you plan on doing something else in parallel.

Luckily, the transcoding screen does come with lots of presets, but be sure to read up on what you get for each value. You can easily go with the presets, but your particular conversion may require special parameters.

Conversion is not the only thing that this app can do. You can piece together video clips from all over, after conversions of course, and make home-grown movies. I had the most fun doing this, and it was so easy. I can’t tell you how many video clips I had saved over the years, and I kept telling myself I would create something magical out of them. Never did until I found this app, which made it effortless.

These videos can then be saved in formats that will run on your iPhone, iPad, HTC One, Samsung Galaxy and more. Yes, you can share with everyone, even if they don’t own an Apple device!

A really neat feature in this latest revision is the ability to capture video from the Mac itself. You can also create slideshows and tack on background music to boot. It’s all built in and very easy to use, which is why this application beats its competitors hands down.

I really cannot say much about what is missing in this application. I was hooked the minute I started using it. The downside with anything Mac is of course the price. This app sets you back more than if you were to purchase another application. However, every extra dollar you spend on this application will get you far more than you could ever imagine. I promise you.

If you watch or make videos often, or if you plan on doing so, then I highly recommend that you make an investment in yourself and buy MacX Video Converter Pro. This is one purchase you won’t ever regret making.

MacX MediaTrans Keeps Your iOS Devices from Getting Chaotic

If you are like me, you love your iOS devices. You’ve got your iPhone tucked away on you so you can keep in contact, keep updated, and keep busy. When you’ve got some space to spare, you pull out your iPad and get down to more serious work, or play. But when the going gets rough with space and performance, that’s when it’s time to pull out the big guns and bring everything to order.

MacX MediaTrans is an app for the Mac that brings clarity to chaos across all your iOS devices. It’s a device manager that sits on your Mac and lets you move data across your devices, and even allows you to transfer as well, so you can free up some space on the device that needs it most.

In a nutshell, it lets you manage, transfer, and backup files of all kinds from your mobile devices to the Mac. Still in love with the movie you downloaded three years ago on your iPad, but know you won’t watch it for another few more? Then transfer it to your Mac. When you are ready to watch, MediaTrans will let you put it back on the device of your choice. But will keep it safe and sound until you are ready.

If your iPhone has too many songs on it and you can see a significant drain on performance, then move some of those songs to your Mac. You will still have them, and you can recall them anytime you want.

How about those movies that, in your mind, are all treasures to be kept forever. Your device may not entirely feel the same way, and to be honest, who wants to rummage through all of those files to look for what you really want. Make it a point to download the videos you know you won’t watch for a while, like the ones from five years ago. If you ever need to see them, they are on your Mac!

The features are endless and include:

  • Direct transfers of photos, videos, music from mobile to Mac and back
  • Extract audio from M4V and save as MP4 or MP3
  • Transforms your iPhone into a USB to send files
  • Media management from the MAC: manage playlists, tracks, albums and genres
  • Delete media from mobile devices after backup to Mac
  • Quick transfers that maintain quality
  • Videos auto rotate on mobile devices when needed

And there is so much more. I thought iTunes was enough to keep my media well managed and backed up, but MacX MediaTrans is so much better.

I would say that the one thing that would make it even better is the ability to push data from my device to the Mac so that I could transfer and save from my mobile device instead of having to drive all the transfers from my Mac.

Until then, I have made great use of MacX MediaTrans to keep my memories and keep my mobiles machines purring to perfection.

Play What you Want with Elmedia Player

Macs can be extremely powerful when used correctly. Many use them for projects heavy in graphics and videography. Others use them as a powerful desktop publishing machine that supports a wide variety of industries. However, Macs are not just good for work – you can take advantage of the power they wield when the work day is done – by watching a good movie or video.

Macs come equipped with QuickTime. It’s free, but it will only work with file types dictated by Apple. Let’s say your friend sent you a link to the latest episode of a series you’ve been trying to keep up with. Well, if it’s an AVI or WMV file, you are out of luck.

Not if you have Elmedia.

Elmedia is player that runs on Macs, but surpasses the boundaries that hold QuickTime back. There are two versions to choose from. The free version supports almost every media format that’s out there. If you upgrade internally from the app, you get the added bonus of being able to play YouTube content, manage playback settings, and snag stills from videos so you can save them as images.

Let’s delve deeper into what you can do with the free version of Elmedia. You can natively play all sorts of files, including SWF, XAP, DIVX, FLV, and DAT. Without leaving the app, you can surf the internet. As you collect more media, you can organize them through playlists. You can also adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, saturation, and noise. You can even change the image layout and use custom and pre-defined presets to adjust the audio to your liking, powered by a 10-band graphic equalizer.

The app cleverly executes software in a way that leverages the maximum speed of the hardware, to support playbacks that are quick and clean – devoid of skips.

As mentioned above, Elmedia allows users to browse the internet from within the app, by opening a separate window. You get a bit more out of this feature if you go with the Pro version. You can also download content with just one click. You can Download All or select just the ones you want from the page.

Extracting and saving frames is a snap. You can do this from either the Movie menu or by using a keyboard shortcut (Control-Command-S). Frames can be saved as TIFFs, PNGs, or GIFs.

For playback tweaks, the Pro version allows you to choose a default output and setup a number channels for quicker access to what you want to see.

From a newbie standpoint, I really couldn’t find anything horribly wrong with the app. It did take a while for me to find where to go to update settings and get videos to show the way I wanted them to. After a little digging around, I was able to figure things out.

Elmedia Player has now become our family’s go-to app to watch videos on our Mac. There are no more worries about whether or not the file will play, and we can all find what we want once we have saved them. The Pro version is definitely worth the purchase if you frequently download content and want to organize it.

Folx 5 – Faster Downloads – Cleaner Organization for Your Mac

Downloading content is not as simple as it seems. On the surface, you think you can just point and click and the file you want will magically reside on your machine. In some cases, this can be true; however, most of the time, it’s a lot more involved.

You need a download manager to make sense of it all, and one that works well. If you have a Mac, then you need to use Folx 5 from Eltima.

The reality behind downloading content is that it’s not as simple as just copying a file onto your machine. Many links to content may not even automatically get saved as a file you can play. That is why a solid download manage that knows exactly what to do when it encounters a download request.

Folx is comprised of two programs that look like one. It performs the download and allows you to manage the results. Designed to fit the packaging it’s built for, Folx is seamless fit for any Mac user.

By embedding itself into the browser, Folx makes download simple. You simply find the content you want and click on download. To make things even better, you can set up 20 different threads to run separate downloads.

There are two versions of Folx: the free version and the Pro version.

You get the following features in both versions:

  • High speed downloads that you can schedule
  • Up to two threads for splitting downloads
  • Resume downloads that have paused or halted
  • Auto catch
  • A Torrent client with magnet links
  • Integration with Spotlight and QuickLook
  • Download catching plugin for Mac browsers
  • Context menu integrated with Mac browsers
  • Integration with Retina displays

If you are ready to make a purchase, I highly recommend the Pro version, because you get a lot of bang for your buck:

  • Split downloads across up to 20 threads.
  • Schedule downloads.
  • iTunes integration.
  • From within the application, search for torrents.
  • Video downloads.
  • Save passwords for FTP and HTTP sites
  • Bandwidth allocation. I have to admit that I was not fully up on what this all meant, but trust me, it’s important – having good bandwidth means you get your downloads faster!
  • Mark your downloads in a way that makes sense to you, so you can find them faster.

Now, all of this can get overwhelming, as the content is fairly technical. What is really cool about Folx is that it is backed by an adept support team. Folx’s support page features FAQs, forums, and guides to get you to where you need to go. If none of those help, pick up the phone and talk to someone who can. If you don’t have time to wait on hold, shoot them an email and they’ll get back to you within 2 days.

Folx is something all Mac owners should have on their machines if they frequently download and use content. I would say that the only thing the app could do better is to make the interface slightly less technical looking and more cleaner. The current interface is packed with fields, making it look more technical than it needs to be.

Download or upgrade to Folx 5 to get the best in download management. You will wonder how you fared for so long without it!

Airy YouTube Downloader – Download, Store, and Play YouTube Content Sans Internet

Ever wish you could save some of those videos you’ve seen on YouTube so you can watch them whenever you want, without needing internet connectivity? Sounds impossible, but it’s not, because there is Airy.

Airy is a YouTube downloader for the Mac that lets sift through all of your favorite playlists and pick favorites to save and play when you want. You can even save entire playlists! What’s even more useful and unique is that you can download just the audio MP3 files, so you can play your YouTube playlists without videos.

I know there are other apps out there that download MP3 files, but Airy was extremely easy to use and provided a clean interface and organization tool to facility easy searches.  The other neat thing about Airy is that you can also choose the format of the audio file besides MP3.

The easy integration of Airy with standard browsers makes the usability top notch. After downloading the Airy app, you integrate with the browser of your choice, and then you will see the Airy bookmark icon, which triggers the download. It was so easy to just bookmark a video link and then save it.

Make note that currently, Airy is in its free trial mode, so when you go to download a playlist, it will capture just the first two items. You will have to go in and download the remainders manually.

I haven’t done much downloading of videos, but the features I found in Airy were quite impressive:

  • Video Quality – you can tweak settings for video download so that when they play you get the quality you want. Videos can download as MP4s, FLVs, and 3GPs, and you have the option to set the resolution, as well.
  • Restrictions – if you have younger folk who will be using the app to download content and want to make sure they are accessing what they are allowed to view, you can easily place password protection on individual downloads. This keeps them out of what they should not have access to.
  • Content Information – when you download a video or mp3, you also get the artist, title and album art.

A really neat feature in Airy is the ability to resume download that may has stopped by accident or that you intentionally paused. You can even have Airy alert you when a download completes.

I really could not ask for more in a YouTube downloader app. Airy seems to have it all. I found it extremely straightforward to use and it had no issues with any of the downloads I tried. I was able to easily save the files wherever I wanted them. I would say the only wish I could have is to have the app download directly into a file sharing app like or Google Docs, so I can easily share without sending files.

Apart from that, Airy YouTube Downloader has made YouTube downloading so easy and convenient. I never thought I would ever use an app like this, but I am seeing so many benefits to having it that I look forward to buying the official version when it comes out.

Efficiently and Safely Use Your Mac with Combo Cleaner

Macs are fine machines. Left to their own devices, they deliver superb computing power, freeing you from being fettered by slow running operating systems of yesteryear. For the most part, they are also very tightly contained, thanks to robust operations systems and meticulous vetting of apps that are “allowed” to run on Mac’s OS’s.

Yet, one has to think that with the advancement of computing power and the cleverness that so many hackers seem to be wielding these days, our Macs may be in need of some assistance to be thoroughly protected. Combo Cleaner is an app for Macs that I would highly recommend you look into if you are looking to keep your stuff safe and help your Mac run as efficiently as possible.

Sounds like a strange combination, but it will make all the sense in the world once you download and use it.

I was hooked when I saw the main page. The layout is clear and you can get to each of the app’s functions instantaneously and easily, thanks the icons neatly stacked on the sidebar. First off you get a dashboard view of the app’s findings:

  • GBs of storage used
  • GBs of free storage
  • Percentage used

combo cleaner

Underneath this, you get results of each function you may have run. This includes the Duplicate File Finder, Big Files Finder, Disk Cleaner, Privacy Scanner, and Antivirus. The app also offers an App Uninstaller which I found to be brilliant, as so many apps can be “uninstalled,” leaving behind so many files for that app that you don’t need anymore. Why keep all of those files if you are not using the app?

To start, I ran the Antivirus, just to see if anything popped up; and it did! Combo Cleaner found bad files and listed them for me so I could decide on what to do with them. I ran the Full Scan, because I wanted to scrub my machine clean. Other options for antivirus include Quick Scan and Custom. I would highly recommend a Full at least once a month, and an occasional Quick if you have suspicions.

After that, I went over to the Disk Cleaner. I have to admit, my Mac was not running as well as it was when I first bought it, so I thought, let’s give this a try. I was shown a few gigabytes of unused files, which I proceeded to delete. Once I restarted, my Mac was like a new machine.

What would be neat to have in Combo Cleaner is the ability to collect and draw data from reports it creates, just to see if you can find trends of privacy issues like time of year when you see more hacks, or map it against the times of the month you have visited more shopping sites than more work related sites.

Even without this extra, Combo Cleaner is a huge plus to have if you have a Mac. The download is free, and you can choose from several subscription offers to keep your Mac safe and running smoothly. It’s a definite download!

Enhance Presentations with Toolbox for Keynote Mac App

Making the perfect presentation is not always intuitive. It takes a lot of creativity and time to piece together content that delivers the information the way you want it to look, flow, and be arranged on each page.

That’s where a powerful toolset comes in handy. If you use Keynote on your Mac to create presentations, and you love all that has to offer, you can enhance your experience with Keynote by downloading Toolbox for Keynote.

We all know that Keynote provides a superb development environment for presentation creation, but it does lack in variety and options for different layouts, backgrounds, images, and productivity sets. Toolbox for Keynote builds on what Keynote already has and takes it up a few notches.

Enhancements include a multitude of clipart images; preset themes and layouts with built in maps, charts and graphics to match; infographics that are clear, concise, and customizable; small graphics that are customizable, like bullets, patterns, frames, and characters; illustrations like doodles, badges, icons, and more.

What is really cool about Toolbox is that you can download it for free, check out what it has to offer, and then pick and choose the pieces you like? If you want the infographics, you can purchase that product set. If you only need the clipart images with editing feature, you can purchase Clipart Prime. If you like all of the enhancement product sets, you can purchase the full bundle, and save lots of money. The added bonus to the full bundle is that you get free updates for everything for the lifetime of the product.

I fell for the full bundle because there were so many options to choose from and it made sense to pay less for more!

After I made the in-app purchase, I sat down to play around with a practice presentation. Normally, you would open Keynote and choose a theme. Without Toolbox, there were 30 themes to choose from. With Toolbox, I had over 100 different types of themes at my disposal! I was blown away.

Toolbox for keynote

I chose my theme and started adding some basic information on each screen. Then I went back and decided on the enhancements I wanted to add. There were so many to choose from:

  • Over 700 different clipart images
  • More than 100 item sets that include doodles, icons, and more
  • More than 300 graphic styles for bullets, frames, patterns, and characters
  • Over 2100 types of diagrams, data visualization sets, charts, flags, and maps

Initially, I was overwhelmed, but I am sure that as projects come in, I will find great use for the abundant choices offered. What I really liked was that you can get new ideas by just browsing.  I thought I knew what I wanted to add, but when I looked at the different options that Toolbox offered, my mind went in a totally different direction.

The only thing I could possibly offer as an improvement to the app is to offer smaller bundles. I like the full bundle, but I can see a lot of folks who use a certain smaller grouping of product sets getting excited about being able to get a discount on a trio.

I can see in-app sales boosted by offering these smaller packages, as a full on $49.99 purchase can be daunting. I love my full bundle and I get lost in the app just browsing and trying things out. I don’ t have a project on hand to create, so I am doing my best to immerse myself in Toolbox for Keynote so I am at the ready when I get the next deliverable! This app is also available for iOS.

Save Money and the Environment – Create Booklet

These days most folks read written material using electronic devices. Gone are the days where you hold a physical copy of the written word. For some, however, the feel of paper in one’s hand is necessary to fully appreciate and absorb the words that span across a page. Swiping away on a screen and trying to decipher print that is small just doesn’t cut it.

While many still need hard copy print for several purposes, such as for marketing or maintaining business contacts, print is a necessity. And while you will still use some electronic device to create your magical masterpiece, you still need a way to make it print in just the right format you need to organize your content correctly and most productively.

This can range from a Z fold pamphlet to a multi-page booklet. Whatever the case may be, you have a friend in Create Booklet.

Most producers of printed booklets rely on the ease of use and power of Mac computers. Create Booklet has been designed to work seamlessly with Macs, making every product you create easy to design and bring to fruition.

What is really neat about this app is that even if you don’t have a duplex printer, it will allow for you to produce printed materials with content on both side in an easy way.

Costing just $9.99, it is a small investment that will save you a great deal of money over the long run. Just imagine how often you use printers and how much they cost. With this app, you have control over your printed product and can tweak it as you wish, multiple time if needed, before you print.

Create Booklet app

You can even try to print one copy, review it and then make your necessary edits. This is not something easily done by a print shop.

Easy to download, it becomes a part of your Print Panel on the Mac. So, when you are ready to print your booklet, you use the app to configure to your liking and then print.

Small features of the app, that go a long way, include:

  • Addition of empty pages, images, and complete PDF’s
  • Reording of pages
  • Removal of unneeded pages
  • Save to PDF
  • Instant printing from Create Booklet
  • PDF fine adjusting and layout design
  • Auto-rotation for landscape pages
  • Split large booklets into smaller ones, and easily find each section in order

And there is more…

Overall, I found Create Booklet to be extremely easy to use. Most of the functions were straightforward and uncomplicated. You also save lots of paper, too, which means increased cost savings.

The only one small item I would like to see is the ability to use it from my iPad, and I am sure that a mini version of it may be in the works. I anxiously look forward to any such additions.

Until then, I will take advantage of this app to best of my ability. I love using this to produce all sorts of written content, both for my business and for small community projects I help with on the side.
