Paint House: Puzzle and Fun comes off as a very simple game that may not interest most people, but once you start to play, you will realize that it can actually be addicting and entertaining. The premise of this game is that you have to paint a house. It has four sides to cover. Each side might have something you have to paint around: a window, an A/C, a gutter, etc.
To add to this, you get a tool with which to paint. This tool moves vertically and horizontally, so this is not a freeform type of graphic arts game. Rather, it’s fairly simplistic in nature, almost pixelated with a Minecraft look and feel. What I am trying to get at is that everything is block based. You will start with a paint tool that looks like a square to start with; and once you start playing, you’ll see what I mean.
The app is a free download and comes with an in-app purchase – the option to open up the full set of paint tools. Without the purchase, you will have to complete a set amount of levels before you being to open up the various tools; and they open up a few at a time based on the total number of levels completed.
When you start the game, you will see one wall of a house. It’s surface will be white except for things that are on the wall (bricks, windows, etc.). To paint the wall, you tap and swipe the painting tool in a chosen direction; either up, down, left or right. The tool will move until it hits the edge or until it hits something. You continue to do this until you have covered all of the white space.
Conceptually, you would think this will be super easy. In some cases, it will be. In others, not so much. You will see yourself retracing your paths to get to leftover white spaces, because they are not easy to get to. The trick is to strategically move the tool in such a way that it stops where you need it to stop, and not go past your targeted area.
Paint House does not have a timer or does not score you on how long it takes for you to complete a side or a complete house, but if you choose to play against others, you will have to up your game.
While the app description on the App Store touts great graphics, I think it leaves much to be desired. I hope to see better and more interesting graphics, because at the moment, they are very simple and not very polished.
Only judging its entertainment factor, Paint My House is a fun game that players of any age can enjoy. If you are looking for a game that’s simple and easy to learn, I recommend downloading it.
