Getting the exercise you need doesn’t have to be a chore anymore! If you are like me and you need the support of other fellow exercisers, but can’t get to a gym or prefer exercising in the comfort of your own home, then ACTIVEx Tabata and Spin Training is the app for you.
Developed by the folks at Active Network, LLC., this app has taken the online network of fitness buffs by storm. It connects people who want to improve their health and boost their fitness easily through an app – sort of like social media for fitness.
The app itself is a free download and comes chock full of features that anyone from first timers who need to start slow to experts looking to find challenging twists to their current routines.
How can it be so effective? ACTIVEx leverages the power of group support to keep people moving. Imagine, if you are part of an exercise group that performs exercises and workouts on a regular basis, while logged in and connected, you would be less likely to skimp out of a workout – simply for the fact that your fellow group members would be hounding you.
The app provides a variety of workouts, all at different difficulty levels. Examples include:
- Tabata-based interval workouts
- SPIN workouts
- 30-day Challenges
- Customized group trainings
- Multi week plans
- Musically powered with Spotify
What I personally found most useful was being able to create my very own training plan. Speaking of training plans, if you are currently training to run a 5K or 10K, ACTIVEx has plans for that, too.
The app does a highly effective job of providing positive feedback. As you set and reach goals, the app offers congratulations and encouragement to move forward.
What is really cool was the in-app coaching you get as you work through each exercise. There is encouragement and guidance on how to perform the exercise and keep from getting injured.
Some key things to remember to get full benefit of the in-app coach is to ensure that you have Notifications turned ON, make sure that the switch on your phone for ring/silent is ON (i.e., you should not see red), turn the volume on your phone up, and make sure “Do Not Disturb” is OFF.
The interface is really easy to use, which makes all the difference, because who wants to be fumbling with an app while you are trying to workout?
The screens are clear and easy to read. I especially liked that you could see how long a workout will be and how far into it you are. It helps with managing time and keeping you going.
The only thing I would change in the app is the rate at which training plans are added or modified. Currently, the app adds new ones once a month. For folks who are fit, more frequent changes may keep them on their toes.
Bar that, ACTIVEx is a fantastic tool for anyone who needs the encouragement of a group to stick to an exercise regimen. If that person is you, you need to download this app today.
