I don’t which one is your case: do you have plenty of workers doing their jobs outside and you are always concerned about their safety? You know, if they have the right tools at their mobile, they could be safe and you could get you “peace of mind”. If that is not your case, let’s think about your social life: have you ever been in a blind date or somewhere where you did not feel safe, and you wished in your thoughts you could have a practical and discreet “help bottom”? Well, for me these were two good reasons why I download and tested My SOS Family, a security alert application.
The whole concept of this personal safety and emergency SOS alert app is pretty straightforward and the installation is super easy. All I had to do was download the app, set my emergency contact from the phone contact list (these could be anyone who I trust and can be done manually too), press the onscreen red button and one SOS Alerts was sent out immediately to my selected contacts via phone call, SMS and an email too with my GPS location and a custom message. To make things even easier, I did some tests with my voice command configuring the app, followed by the message that I want to send.
Another interesting things I found about My SOS Family was how you can set-up features to use in different situations, for example, at home or even travelling overseas because of the above-mentioned features. And I cannot forget to mention that my contacts do not necessarily have to download the app on their mobiles to receive my alerts: all my selected contacts are immediately notified via SMS, alert phone call or email just by pressing the app “Help” button”. Once an alert has been sent, my contact can help me and contact the authorities. Summing up, I feel safer knowing someone will take care if anything goes wrong, after all, accidents can happen.
Other cool features from this app were some adjustments I was able to make:
- Use the SOS number and leave a recorded SOS message which is sent to SOS contacts;
- Use my “voice” to trigger App and SOS alerts;
- Set SOS timer to send alerts automatically at the end of the countdown;
- Use my phones power button to discreetly trigger alerts;
- Choose to send alerts to everyone simultaneously or one person after another;
I was very curious to try the app, so I download and choose first a free trial for 14 days (even with the nice features I thought was a good idea to try before sign up for one of the plans) and in the trial is included 5 SOS alerts to test, what is a good amount to try it out. And one of the greatest things about the My SOS Family is that there are no hidden costs. After the trial, I had three choices to upgrade my account: one month pass (that does not auto-renew, and in my opinion, a good option to see if you really like it), the monthly subscription (great price!) and an annual subscription (this one was my choice, great cost-benefit).
I did a long research and found that most of the apps in the security environment is linked to a care-line and that’s cost plenty of money to keep all the operators, staffs etc. In the case of My SOS Family app, there is no operator. Once you set up the operation and trigger a help alert, your contacts will be ready to help you.
About overseas travels, there is one thing that needs to be improved… If you were thinking about using this app in places like Asia or South / Central America, forget about it. The app and service it’s available just for the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Spain, Germany, France, Sweden and Belgium. Is already a good amount, and I hope they will improve this in the future.
In the other hand, the app is compatible with all the devices, iPhones and Android phones, as well with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant devices. Particularly for me, this is pretty great, I’m always changing phones and I know the app will have all functionalities in any of them.
For sure I recommend the app, my favorite thing is its navigability and how easy it’s to use it. You do not really have to check on it or make sure it is working, because it is.
