I like to use Siri every so often, but sometimes she just doesn’t get what I’m trying to say. She’ll end up calling Bob when I say “Call mom,” or she’ll pull up directions for “Kentucky Fried Chicken,” instead of a local restaurant called “Mamma’s Kitchen.” The fact is that her range of comprehension is limited, but our commands are not.

Now Treycent, it gets me. It knows the commands I need and how to deliver. That’s because Treycent is an app that allows you to teach it commands that mean something to you. Like “show me a picture of my youngest child,” or “show me directions to my favorite Thai place.” You get define your commands what they will do. Treycent does the rest.

It’s a free download, so you have nothing to lose. All you have to do is let it have some access to your device’s built in apps, like camera, photos, microphone…you get the picture.

Next, you enter the screen called Create Command. Right now, you can create your own customized commands to load a photo, load a video, load a note, load a webpage and an IFTTT event (for us old folks, that’s If This Then That).

Let’s say you want to create a command called, “show me my dad’s photos,” you would type in or speak the command and then define which files should be opened from your photo albums. Then, whenever you speak that command, Treycent will invoke the loading of the photos you defined to go with that command.

Load a note works similarly. You could say “show me my grocery shopping list.” Then you would define the app and file that needs to be displayed. Going forward, even if you update that file, you would see the update every time you invoke the command.

IFTTT is even more awesome. There are several apps out there that link into IFTTT. How would you use Treycent with IFTTT? Let’s say you create a command and call it “I’m leaving the house.” You could use an IFTTT linked to that command that will trigger several actions. One could be to lower the temperature of your house so it does not heat as much while everyone’s out. Another would be to turn on the security system. A third may be to turn on the Roomba, so you have a spotless house when you return from work. Now, you need to be in possession of those other apps, but you get the idea.

I just loved how this app works, because sometimes you have the specifics you want to invoke and the plain and simple voice command hosts just wouldn’t know what you were talking about. Now, you can tell it what you want and you will get exactly what you need, every time.

What I would like to see in the future is the ability for it to shutdown certain apps when my power level is waning, or maybe auto time a shutoff for those apps that don’t have that as a built in function.

Even without that, Treycent is a treasure of an app if you love voice command driven functionality. I would highly recommend this as a must download.
