If you’re in the following situation and wish there was a solution, you are not alone. You have found picture that’s a little old so it’s resolution is not that great, but you really need it to use in a photo book you’re putting together for a friend. It could be a photo for a book, for a slideshow, or it could be a logo you’ve copy pasted from your website, and you want it large enough to put on a company t-shirt.

Whatever the situation, they all have one thing in common – an image needs to be enlarged, but the clarity and crispness of the have to be retained. That’s where you need to use BiggerPicture. It’s a Mac OS app that helps you see the bigger picture and get to a solution fast by enabling you to take almost any photo or image file and enlarge to the size and resolution you need so you can use it in a variety of ways.

It could be as simple as wanting to use it as a wallpaper on your desktop to something as critical as adding a logo or design on company artifacts that represent who you are and what you do.

The download is free, but there are in app purchases to turn on basic functionality, which is easy to use while offering a rich set of features to easily transform small images to larger ones with higher resolutions. These features include:

• Smart Technology – BiggerPicture leverages advancements in artificial intelligence to easily enlarge images between 2x to 8x the original size, without blurring or pixelation. The technology allows BiggerPicture to predict what should go in the missing pixels when the image is enlarged, so the colors and images are expanded and the final product looks like you never made any enhancements.
• Noise Reduction – the app identifies and removes any artifacts created during image compression, which are usually found in low-res JPG files. The app lets you choose how much reduction you want.
• Batch Processing – enlarge several photos in one go. Great for when you want to use a bunch of photos you took from your iPhone 4!
• Photo Editing – the app has its own editing extension, so you can edit photos right away and save for use.

When you first open the app on your Mac, you’ll notice that all you need is right there, in one window and there a different ways to choose how you want to enlarge your image. You can enlarge by the Target Size, and this can be measured in multiples, pixels and printable. What you choose will be based on how you want to use the final image.

You can choose if you have Artwork or Photo as your final image – an important distinction to make to help when printing or using the final file.

Once you are done with the enlargement and with any tweaks you need to make, you can share the image through other applications like Facebook and other social media. Quality is maintained, so no need to worry.

For users who really need to view their images carefully, there’s an option on Mac OS Sierra and higher allowing you to use the app in Dark Mode. This makes the apps workshop go black, so you can see the image clearly and put your focus on it.

If there were anything I could wish for it would be better disclosure of the costs involved in using this app. While it is free as a download, users should know that you really can’t do much with the free app until you’ve made an in app purchase which unlocks all features.

It’s still a very useful Bigger Picture to have to help you salvage and use photos in places that you otherwise could not.
